What is this?

Active, exploratory job search. Figuring out what’s out there and pursuing the right next move. Complementary to the jobs project (weekly digest scraper) — that builds the funnel; this is the active pursuit, strategy, outreach, and decision-making.

Motivation

Feeling like spinning wheels in current role. Not adding the value he wants to be adding, for reasons that aren’t directly in his control. The mission that excited him 4.5 years ago has been achieved, and the current work no longer excites him.

What does success look like?

A ladder — climb rung by rung:

  1. Market clarity — where he fits, what’s out there, what level/role to target
  2. Marketability + access — improved positioning and warm paths into the right companies
  3. Offer worth considering — a real, evaluable opportunity

Constraints

  • Location: Toronto. Moving the family is only on the table for a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity.
  • Compensation: Limited flexibility. Breadwinner of the family; household budget has minimal slack. A concrete comp floor needs to be set early.
